Sorry it's been so long
Wow, how time flies. it has been entirely too long since my last entry. so hows my life going? well ok i suppose, looking for a different job, not looking forward to school in the summer, have LOTS of work to do before the end of the term, but other than that, things are good! i am alive, healthy, happy, and actually have some time to sit down and write this journal entry--sorry ive been neglecting it. but i think that i'll go work on my super-cool web page now... talk to you later Current Mood: rushed | | Thursday, April 12th, 2001 | | 3:14 pm |
oregon uniting dialouge #2
i think that today's dialouge was extremely interesting to watch how much people contradicted themselves in the same sentence and how much they were poster children for the kind of people they hope to enlighten with these talks. i also think that if these discussions were videotaped, it would help some people to be able to go back and watch themselves later. then they could realize how stubborn they appear to be and that in itself might help them discover what they can do to see what OU is getting at. i chose to sit back and watch today pretty much because i didn't have anything too nice or too insightful to say that it couldn't be witheld and i was in a listening mood. i found it very interesting, that while everyone knows that there are more than two races in the world and in this country, in this room (black and white), they don't appear to be referring to them when they voice their comments. for example, the people i work for (they are korean) have their own set of problems to face, and act on their own instincts about race just as much as me or a black person. they are quick to hire the first korean person that turns in an application, but they don't hire the 15-20 other people who turned in applications that week. i think perhaps they feel more comfortable with other koreans, but perhaps they arent looking at what they really should be- who is the most qualified person for the job (even though its only retail work). they also follow around the black people and let everybody else go about their business. my point in bringing that up is just to say that i think we need to acknowledge the fact that there are different races out there between black and white and i think it might help if those in the class who are not "anglo" would speak up a bit about their personal experiences with race and racism, since they aren't under the same "white privilege" banner that the rest of us are. the color of fear
i thought that the movie was quite interesting but i thought that some of the people in the movie needed a lot more "counseling" than they were going to get in the hour long movie. the one bigger black man (i can't remember his name) seemed to have way too much of an anger built up towards white people. i realize that i dont know his background or how he was raised but i think that he should try to let go of that hatred and focus on today where if he looked at it with a fresh perspective, he probably isnt prejudiced as much as he is so sure he is. as for the rest of the people in the group, i think they gained quite an understanding of how those of other races (at least those in the room) felt about their daily actions, the things they do and say. all in all, i couldnt believe that the movie was made quite so recently, i guess i just havent been exposed to people with all that much hate in them | | Thursday, April 5th, 2001 | | 2:31 pm |
returning to school
it feels so weird having to jump right back into classes like this with only one week in between and things just seem to be moving so quickly! ah! but i guess it doesnt help that i work myself 48 hours a week : ) oh well, hopefully ill find some way to get through it alive, i just have to find some time to squeeze in that community learning thing... | | Tuesday, March 6th, 2001 | | 3:03 pm |

43 yr old Female Red Cross Executive
i am worried about the fact that cloning has become so readily available because it will most likely create more children that are unwanted and unproperly cared for, leading to a bigger burden on me and my organization. it will also force us to provide for a larger population of underprivileged children and families who suddenly realize that cloning might have been a 'fad.' orphanages that we support will require more funding and more efforts will have to be made to 'advertise' the need for adoptive/foster families. |
